The 17th Macao International Environmental Co-operation Forum & Exhibition (MIECF) took place from 26 to 28 March 2026 at The Venetian Macao. It featured over 350 exhibitors from 12 countries and regions, spanning 12,000 square metres. International participants increased by 20% from the previous year, marking it as the largest edition yet.


EcoBay Alliance and the Endeavour Environmental Education Foundation (ENEEF) from Hong Kong jointly participated in MIECF 2026 with the theme "Nature Restoration × Smart Circular Economy." They launched the Greater Bay Area Wetland Symbiosis Plan, an innovative initiative to create a carbon sink ecological circular economy model, promoting sustainable green development in the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area.


our booth showcased a range of innovative technologies across several core areas:

Aquaponics System — A complete ecological chain demonstrating "Nature Restoration × Smart Circular Economy," organically integrating aquaculture with plant cultivation. Fish waste is converted into plant nutrients, and the water purified by plants is cycled back to the fish tanks, creating a zero-waste closed-loop production model. The booth also featured an AI-powered smart wetland management system capable of real-time monitoring of water quality and migratory bird habitation, providing scientific data to support wetland ecological conservation.



Indoor Direct Air Capture (DAC) Technology — A cutting-edge solution for capturing carbon dioxide directly from the air, offering a viable pathway to carbon neutrality in urban environments.



Circular Economy Laboratory — Showcasing three core technologies: recycling and purification of spent lithium batteries; conversion of food waste into biochar and activated carbon; and transformation of waste plastics into crude oil, gas, and carbon powder. These technologies embody the practical realisation of circular economy principles and dual-carbon targets, with operations already underway or under construction in Hong Kong, Macao, and Malaysia.



At 11:45 AM on 26 March 2026, Ecobay Alliance held the official launch ceremony of the "Greater Bay Area Wetland Symbiosis Plan — Carbon Sink Smart Wetland · Food & Medicine Ecological Symbiosis" at its exhibition booth, under the theme "Smart Innovation · Fish & Herb Symbiosis." Distinguished guests personally placed plant seedlings onto the floating wetland platform, symbolising the formal launch of the initiative.

The Greater Bay Area Wetland Symbiosis Plan is built around three core modules that together form a complete ecological loop — simultaneously achieving zero organic waste, carbon sequestration, and increased yields of food and medicinal crops.

Module 1: Eco-Insect House

The Eco-Insect House harnesses the power of black soldier fly (BSF) larvae to efficiently break down organic waste — including scrap wood, soybean pulp, and coffee grounds — converting it into protein-rich larvae and high-quality organic fertiliser (frass). This process reduces greenhouse gas emissions at the source, while the larvae serve as nutritious aquaculture feed, completing a full material loop that balances environmental and economic value.



Module 2: Carbon Sink AI Floating Platform

The platform uses biochar and eco-friendly materials to enhance the productivity of traditional wetlands and fish ponds in an ecologically sensitive manner. Plant root systems help purify the water, while biochar adsorbs pollutants. An integrated AI smart monitoring system continuously tracks water quality and carbon emission changes within the water body, providing real-time scientific data for wetland carbon sink management.



Module 3: Fish & Herb Symbiosis House

The Fish & Herb Symbiosis House makes full use of the space surrounding the wetland, combining aquaculture with the cultivation of Chinese herbal medicine. By utilising nutrient-rich purified water, it enables pesticide-free, green farming. The diverse herb cultivation also attracts beneficial insects, enriching the wetland's micro-ecosystem, strengthening overall environmental resilience, and supplying high-quality raw materials for the traditional Chinese medicine industry.



The Greater Bay Area Wetland Symbiosis Plan uniquely integrates carbon sink management with economic production, leveraging Hong Kong-Macao research and Mainland China's experience to balance ecological protection with economic returns.

The plan should be good to pilot in Macao's wetlands, utilizing the city's water resources like wetland parks, Nam Van Lake, and Sai Van Lake as technology demonstration sites. Mr. Samuel Tang, CEO of EcoBay Alliance, highlighted Macao's strong foundation in environmental protection and ESG, making it ideal for promoting these technologies. EcoBay Alliance plans to use MIECF's international reach to expand Hong Kong–Macao technologies into Southeast Asia, Europe, and Portuguese-speaking countries, enhancing the ESG sector and supporting the Greater Bay Area's green and low-carbon development.

Mr. Liu Kai Kwong, Chairman of ENEEF, stated that the Foundation will invest in refining technologies like fish-herb symbiosis and AI-powered wetland management, and engage with Mainland institutions for technology implementation and scaling.
